Cedar Schoolhouse located at 2311 Rosewall Cres: Preschool, Kindergarten, Class 1 and Administration. In April 2011, the Comox Valley Waldorf School Society, thanks to a very generous donation, was able to purchase and renovate a building to house the Comox Valley Waldorf School. Located at 2311 Rosewall Crescent in the Tintown area of Courtenay, the former Rosewall Wellness Centre required significant renovations both inside and out to be ready for school opening in September 2011. Heating, lighting, structural and fire protection systems were upgraded to meet the requirements for operation as a school. The walls are painted in a rainbow of lazure pastels; wood accents and cork floors provide a natural warmth to the light and airy classrooms.
Hemlock Schoolhouse located at 2398 Rosewall Cres: Grades 1-6 In January 2014, a benefactor of the Comox Valley Waldorf School purchased another building in the Tin Town area at 2398 Rosewall Crescent. This building houses the grades level programs and has similar lighting and ambience in each classroom.
Recess Grounds
The children of the Comox Valley Waldorf School have the opportunity to be in nature every day at an adjacent 4-acre park along Piercy Creek. A place of natural fields, paths and woods, this park also hosts some of the seasonal events that are part of a Comox Valley Waldorf School education, the students experiencing and enjoying the changing face of nature through every month of the year.
Gardening
The Comox Valley Waldorf School has outdoor space designated for a gardening program where each class has their own bed. Classes design their own unique garden each year. In kindergarten, this will involve experience with soil preparation, planting, watering, weeding and observation. The children also enjoy the process of composting, harvesting and eating from their own garden. In the Grades, the activities in the garden will be similar but will include a deepening of the experience through a look into all of its mysteries.
