Kindergarten Assistant
Comox Valley Waldorf School is looking for a Kindergarten Assistant for the 2018-19 school year. This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Comox Valley Waldorf School is located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Our faculty honours healthy communication and our work is enriched with anthroposophical study and artistic work. We are a vibrant community with strong support from our Board, Administration and Parent Group. In a Waldorf School the faculty carries the special role in creating the heart of the school community. In order to do this work a commitment is made by teachers to come together for this foundation work by attending faculty meetings, festivals and events.
Position Summary:
The Kindergarten Assistant will support the programs and activities as planned by the Lead Teacher for each day by helping to set up the classroom and materials, clean up after activities and care for the children. The Kindergarten Assistant will participate and attend parent evenings, faculty meetings and other functions such as school festivals. If the Kindergarten Assistant has the appropriate BC Teacher’s Certificate then in the Lead Teacher’s absence, this person will be prepared to be in charge of the class and lead the group activities such as circle time, snack time and story time; deal successfully and creatively with the transition times; and handle the unexpected in an appropriate manner. The Position will begin immediately, and ends with the completion of the school year in June 2019.

This contract will begin immediately and will end with the completion of the school year on June 14, 2019. This position is $20/hour and is 17.5 hours/week. We offer professional development funding upon successful completion of the first year.

Preferred Qualifications:
- BC teacher certification in good standing or ECE certificate preferred
- Waldorf teaching certification or a willingness to engage in Waldorf training/courses
- Thorough understanding of Waldorf education and human development from an anthroposophical perspective in progress
Required Qualifications:
- Valid First Aid Certificate is needed
- Express positive interpersonal skills with children and adults
- Be motivated, determined, flexible, creative and committed
- Display the ability to develop, cultivate and maintain healthy working relationships
- Demonstrate compatibility with existing administrative staff and faculty
