"Our Middle Grades Class completed their final week of the Fibre Arts block. What a wonderful five weeks they had working with six different fibres, meeting fibre artists, and working on their own skills and creations. The realization that humans discoverd the potential of these fibres through creative exploration, building on ideas of others, and trial and error, was brought to the students in a variety of ways. They each completed a self-assessment considering their creative exploration during this block. The class thoroughly enjoyed the fibre fair, and the opportunity to showcase what they have learned to their families and other students." - Jen Irwin, Middle Grades Class Teacher
Upper Grades Ancient Rome Projects
"This past week, the upper grades students continued their study of the Roman Republic. The stories are eliciting strong responses of disbelief and even horror at a time in humanity when power and strength was viewed as the ultimate virtue, and love and compassion was limited. After hearing another tale of conquer, one student replied in disgust “I hate the Romans, I wish they’d just lose!” These stories offer the class an opportunity and a platform for reflection, and our classroom conversations are deeply meaningful these days. We heard about a consul of Rome named Gaius Marius, whose greatest attribute and downfall was his ambition and pride. These lead us into a discussion about what quality in ourselves could be both our strength and weakness. It was fascinating to hear their thoughts." - Amy Wells, Upper Grades Class Teacher
