Rebecca Watkin - Director of Education (Principal)
As a child, Rebecca always knew she would be a teacher. As a young woman she received a BA from Simon Fraser University and shortly thereafter attended Rudolf Steiner Centre to receive her teaching credentials. After teaching for many years and parenting young daughters, she returned to school at Vancouver Island University to receive a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
As a founder of Comox Valley Waldorf School, Rebecca has worked here for nine years as a Class teacher, Subject teacher and Collective Leadership team member. She worked with a small group of dedicated parents and teachers to bring her dream of Waldorf in the Valley to fruition after working in other Waldorf schools both on the mainland, and south island, since 2002. Rebecca received an incredible group of children as a Class One when the school opened its doors in 2011. She has enjoyed every minute of the journey with these children and their families over the years and graduated this class in June 2018. Rebecca combines her passions for Waldorf education and for educational change and thereby represents Comox Valley Waldorf School within the larger context of education in BC in her role as Principal. Through this role, Rebecca places Waldorf curriculum goals and practices within the conversation regarding the transformation of education in BC. Rebecca works part time in her role as Director of Education/Principal in partnership with the Faculty Director, the Office Administrators, the Board, the Faculty and the Parents. |
