Subjects Teacher

Posting 
The Comox Valley Waldorf School is an independent school that offers Waldorf education for preschool to Grade 7 aged children.  We seek a highly motivated individual to teach subjects classes to, and supervise recesses of, the grade students.  We are currently looking for individuals to teach the following subjects from a Waldorf pedagogical perspective (any of the following postings can be combined for individuals with several areas of skill/strength):
  • Handwork, 6 classes per week
  • Woodwork, 2 classes pre week
  • Physical Education/Movement, 7 classes per week
  • Languages, preferably French, 3 classes per week, more is possible
  • Applied Design, Skills and Technology, 5 classes per week
 
Position Summary 
The successful candidate will teach the BC Ministry of Education curriculum for their subject for Grade 1-7 which aims to empower students to develop a personalized understanding of what healthy living means to them as individuals and members of society in the 21st century.  All teaching will begin with an understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and child development from the philosophical perspective of Anthroposophy.  All teaching will engage First Peoples Principles of Learning as well as develop in students the capacity for reflection and self-assessment. 
 
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will be Waldorf trained (Spacial Dynamics trained for PE) and BC certified teachers.  CVWS will consider teachers who are not Waldorf trained if they have a willingness to receive training (primarily at their own expense) and work with a mentor.   The following should be included in resume/CV:
  • Proof of BC Ministry of Education Teachers Certificate in good standing 
  • Proof of Waldorf Training completion or equivalent
  • Preferably 1+ years of experience teaching grades children 
  • Valid First Aid 
  • Criminal Record Check – this is part of COQ in good standing
 
Hours, Rate of Pay, Length of Year 
The hours of the position is dependent on the skill areas of each applicant.  We are seeking to cover between 12-16 hours of subject teaching as well as recess supervision.  Rate of pay is $25-30/hour depending on credentials. Prep time is paid for each class at the rate of ¼ hour. All positions begin in August 2020 and end in June 2021.  For any part time teachers who wish to be part of the life of the school and attend meetings, festivals, studies, etc. pay is expanded to cover this commitment.
