Woodwork Teacher
Comox Valley Waldorf School is looking for a Woodwork Teacher, preferably with a Waldorf background, to teach 2 classes/week for grades 5 & 6 students for the 2018-19 school year. This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Comox Valley Waldorf School is located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Our faculty honours healthy communication and our work is enriched with anthroposophical study and artistic work. We are a vibrant community with strong support from our Board, Administration and Parent Group. In a Waldorf School the faculty carries the special role in creating the heart of the school community. In order to do this work a commitment is made by teachers to come together for this foundation work. You are encouraged to participate in this work by attending faculty meetings, festivals and events and joining a committee of your choice.
Position Summary:
In a Waldorf School, the Woodwork program begins in Grade 5. Using hand tools like the rasp and gouge, students create functional, beautiful objects, including bulb planters, spoons and bowls.
Hours, Rate of Pay & Length of Year:
This contract begins August 27th and finishes June 21st. Working hours are 2 classes per week. School is in session Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 3pm and Friday’s 8:30am - 12:30pm. Friday afternoon faculty meet for meetings till 3pm. School holidays include November teacher conference week, Christmas holidays, February teacher conference week and 2 week Spring Break. The salary for this position is based on 2 hours/week at $25/hour spread out over 37 weeks. More hours may be required with a salary increase to reflect that.
